Since the dawn of time, when humans begin appearing more specifically, Life lay in the hands of Mother Nature. It was those times where you either work with Her or you suffer. It's safe to say that early homo-sapiens worked well with Mother Nature, because if it all went south I wouldn't be here typing this. Everything was fine and dandy, you rub my back and I rub yours, that was how it worked back than.
Than along came the antagonist is these anecdote, the Industrial Revolution. Humans began to learn the tricks of the trades. Learnt how to harness energy from Her resources, petroleum, coal, natural gas and the sorts. Founded inventions such as the light bulb, motor vehicles, aeroplanes, telephones and such. Transmute precious mineral ores into objects that we take for granted these days, copper, lithium, coal, silver, iron and the list go on and on. Transform uranium into nuclear energy that saw the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (it was the atom bomb I know, but same principle) that ended World War II, however it was only the beginning; when other countries learnt how to handle uranium, a new arm's race began. The fight for who gets to build the biggest nuclear bomb. Despite it's ability to render a country flat with is deadly radioactivity, long decay time and large area of effect which we fondly use Chernobyl as a reference, it's ability to provide power and electricity sounds too good to be true. Now every country wants first dibs in using nuclear energy, Malaysia for example. Though countries were invaded, and treaties were being amended for such a thing, the fight for nuclear energy is a promising one to those who are blind about past histories. A means to an end.
In short, this is what happens when civilization find themselves fighting against Mother Nature. The excuse, survival of the fittest. In order to preserve humanity for the coming years, civilization destroy and rape what Mother Nature has spawned for us. We find ourselves lusting for more, to survive in the current age, sacrifice has to be made in expense of Mother Nature. We find ourselves above Mother Nature. True, I will never be able to live without what humanity has brought before me now. I need my hot shower, great food, comfy home, nice car, handphones. The true question is; what happens when Mother Nature decides to bite back. Mother Nature's reply, "You reap what you sow".
There was a time when someone can walk up to you, pat you back and happily whisper, "The rain cannot stop us from doing what we love". A time when Mother Nature's smallest and humblest of gift was so minuscule that it will never be able to cause any problems besides not being able to dry your clothes. Since the Industrial Revolution, we have felt the start of Mother Nature's fury. There is a saying that "Hell has no wrath such as a women's scorn". Well my friend, Mother Nature's a women and boy is she angry.
In the past decade we heard new, we all heard news. It is now we think to ourselves, "How? How does such a humble natural occurrence such as water, snow, ice and the sorts cause so much destruction". How did this happen, who is responsible? We are, we all are. In 2010, simultaneous flooding in China and Pakistan saw death toll in number. People were shocked. Rain did this? How and why? At the end of 2010, we saw bad cold snap across the Northern Hemisphere, forcing most airports across US, UK, and most part of Europe...rendering passengers stuck in the airport for days. Economy was affected...all of this because of water turning into ice and snow.
Furthermore we saw the flood in Queensland, dubbed as 'once in a 200 years' or something like that. On Christmas no less, while some of us were kept warm in our comfy home, nice hot fire in the hall, delicious food on the table, the unfortunate ones in Queensland were trying to put their life back together while flood water were ravaging the city, killing people in the process. Houses were destroyed, business were lost and lives were shattered. All of this because of water in excess.
Now, we have news of animals are dying all across the world. 2 million fishes found dead in Maryland, thousands of birds found dead, falling off from the sky like something that falls from the sky, and 10, 000 antelopes found dead in Kazakhstan. I bet no one from the Industrial age saw this coming.
Whatever is causing this to happen we have only ourselves to blame, even myself included. We as Humans are suddenly too ignorant to listen to what Mother Nature has to say, we shoved her when ice-caps the size of Manhattan was detached from the North Pole. We laughed at her face when extreme flooding was just a case of too much water in the air, we than proceed to taunt her when everything She tries, fails. Like any mother protecting her child, Mother Nature is just doing what shes suppose to do, protecting. Reminding Humanity to work with Her again, and I think that is what we should do. There's always a first for everything. If we don't, it will only get worst in years to come. You know what will happen, as they say "don't bite the hands that feed you". That is all, thank you.
